About Ghallia Parfums

We chose the name Ghallia Parfums back in 2018 for several reasons that combined to make a compelling case against any other alternative.

The etymology of Ghallia Parfums is derived from the ancient name of France, which was known as Gallia in Latin, and the tradition of Medieval Arab-Islamic that perfumery crossed over from Al Andalus over the Pyrenees where it found its home in France.

The most famous perfume genre created in the Arab-Islamic tradition was known as Ghallia. It translates into “very rare and expensive” and is an appropriate noun that reflects the work of two artisans who have dedicated themselves to producing stunning olfactory gems with every release.  You will not find dozens of releases from our perfume house every year and we would rather not release a fragrance if we feel it does not represent the best in class. Instead, we strive to ensure perfection with every unique perfume we create, as it has to live up to the epithet, Ghallia.

Rose De Taif

The Rosa Damascena, often regarded as the King—or perhaps more aptly, the Queen—of Roses, holds an unrivalled place in the world of perfumery. In Middle Eastern culture, where the arts are expressed through functional beauty rather than abstract creations like paintings or sculptures, the craft of scent-making has long been elevated to an art form.

What unites Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia? These nations produce some of the finest Rosa Damascena in the world. Syria might well have been included in this list if not for the turns of political history. Given the deep cultural enthusiasm in the Middle East for scent as an art form, it is no surprise that the Ottomans and Safavids championed Rosa Damascena as their rose of choice for perfumery. This legacy is evident in the continued cultivation of exceptional roses across these regions, reflecting a shared heritage of olfactory excellence.

However, not all Rosa Damascena is created equal. Regional nuances abound, from the vibrant green variety nurtured in Isparta, Turkey, to the world-renowned blooms of Bulgaria’s Rose Valley. Yet, above all others, the Taif Rose of Saudi Arabia is almost universally celebrated as the pinnacle of Rosa Damascena. Known for its unique lychee-like note, the Taif Rose offers a complexity and dimension that sets it apart from its peers.

For Ghallia, the choice was clear. As a name synonymous with luxury and exclusivity, it was only fitting that our first floral composition should feature this extraordinary and highly sought-after rose. The Taif Rose not only embodies the finest traditions of perfumery but also elevates our fragrance to a level of elegance, befitting its storied origins.

Santal Imperial

Santal Imperial was created with a bold ambition: to craft the world’s finest and most quintessential sandalwood fragrance. While most sandalwood perfumes rely on the primary constituent of distilled sandalwood oil, we took a different approach. Those of you familiar with Al Hashimi’ll know they are renowned for producing Santal X, the world’s finest sandalwood extract. With its smooth progression of notes and the deeply meditative calm it inspires in its wearers, Santal X has set a benchmark in sandalwood excellence.

As the most celebrated creation in Al Hashimi’s portfolio, Santal X has consistently garnered glowing reviews from every buyer, making it a fitting foundation for Santal Imperial. To achieve this vision, we poured not only a generous portion of our finest sandalwood reserves but also included the entirety of our coveted Ceylon Santal stock. Complemented by the richness of Orris, the depth of ambergris, and a carefully balanced blend of other exquisite ingredients, Santal Imperial stands as the epitome of elegance.

The result is an unapologetically luxurious sandalwood perfume that redefines sophistication—crafted for those who demand nothing but the best.

Special Reserve No.6

Imagine an uber-luxurious attar made from natural aromatics I've been collecting for over 15 years as olfactory heirlooms meant to be passed down as part of an olfactory library.   Now let's imagine it contains no expenses spared and irreplaceable natural aromatics such as an exclusive 1960s Musk extract from Grasse, France, Vintage Deer Musk grains from Kashmir and Siberian deer musk grains bought decades ago and widely acknowledged as one of the finest musks in recent years by the natural perfume cognoscenti. Now go further and imagine that the different constituents in such an attar become subsumed into one another, usually a hallmark of vintage attars, typically 20+ years or older.  Well, you don't have to imagine all this if you are lucky enough to own the Special Reserve No. 2 crafted by Al Hashimi's duo of insane aromatic fanatics.

The question is, can this be bettered?  How does one improve on perfection?  The answer is that you really cannot. Still, we've decided to use a large amount of the Special Reserve No.2 stock for a derivative batch that we expertly blended with the finest Jasmine Absolute and other world-class signature florals (come on, we can't give all our secrets away!)  We called it Special Reserve No.6 and then added aged ambergris tincture made from a vintage piece of the highest-grade ambergris. We applied some more olfactory magic to create what might become the benchmark for incense and attar-based perfume sprays.

Musc 1960

For those who love musk, this can only be described (metaphorically) as the Holy Grail of Musk perfumes.  Upon creating this, I was genuinely shocked at how good it smells and how authentically it recreates the smell of fresh musk grains.  As this prelaunch is currently hosted on the Al Hashimi site, it might be more apt to use a metaphor that Artisanal Oud aficionados can relate to - this is pretty much the Kinam equivalent of musk if such a thing exists.

Musc 1960 is a no-expense-spared, full-bodied Musk Soliflore that redefines what a musk perfume should be. Crafted from a rare, vintage musk extract preserved since 1960 in Grasse, the home of French perfumery, this precious ingredient journeyed through Yemen and North America before becoming part of this exceptional creation. Its rarity and history make Musc 1960 not just a fragrance but a true collector’s treasure.

Why did we acquire this vintage musk extract at such an exorbitant cost? Quite simply, its quality is unparalleled. From its rich, animalic sweetness to its unparalleled depth, it surpasses even the finest Siberian, Mongolian, and Kashmiri vintage musks. It reminded me of a 2019 encounter with a perfumer whose homemade musk attars offered an almost spiritual olfactory experience—something I believed I would never find again until I encountered this rare 1960 musk.

Musc 1960 brings this extraordinary musk to life in an Extrait de Parfum that guarantees an intense, unforgettable experience. A couple of sprays envelop you in the unmistakable aroma of vintage musk grains, as if a Musk Deer had left its fresh, powerful scent behind. The composition is elevated with ambergris tincture for a touch of ethereal lightness, while Orris Germanica Resinoid and Orris Palloid Resinoid lend a luxurious, rounded richness that lingers beautifully.
